The Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, on Thursday formally inaugurated the newly elected executives of the Oluyole Local Government League of Imams and Alfas, describing the body as a critical moral compass in grassroots governance and community life.

He also commended the body for what he called “critical partners on sociocultural and religious affairs at the grassroots.

The inauguration ceremony, held yesterday at the Oluyole Central Mosque, Idi-Ayunre, Ibadan, with Islamic clerics, traditional leaders, political functionaries and community stakeholders from across the local government area.

The new executives council are Alhaji Taliat Abdulazeez Sanni as the Chief Imam of Oluyole LG and Chairman of Oluyole League of Imams and Alfas,
Alhaji Jamiu Ibiyemi (vice chairman), Alhaji Mudashiru Ayobami Ajala (Secretary), and Alhaji Mudashiru Sulaiman (Chief Treasurer) among others.

Speaking at the event, Olatunji, who is the Baba’sale (Grand Patron) Musulumi of Oluyole LG, congratulated the new executives on the confidence reposed in them, urging them to see their positions as a call to deeper service rather than status.

Olatunji declared that the inauguration has finally put the age long leadership dispute within the body to rest as the two factions have embraced each other in peace and harmony.

He noted that Imams and Alfas remain influential voices in shaping values, promoting peaceful coexistence and guiding society, especially at a time when moral discipline and unity are increasingly tested.

The council chairman emphasized that his administration recognises the role of religious institutions in promoting harmony and social stability, adding that sustainable development at the local level thrives best where there is mutual respect and collaboration between government and faith-based leaders.

He called on the newly inaugurated leadership to continue to preach moderation, tolerance and civic responsibility, while also serving as partners in community development initiatives across Oluyole.

He equally assured that his administration is fully keyed into the vision of governor Seyi Makinde to deepen peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance among all faiths in the council to compliment efforts of the state government.

In his brief remark, the newly inaugurated chairman of the Oluyole LG League of Imams and Alfas, speaking on behalf of the executives, expressed gratitude to the council chairman for the support and recognition accorded the league.

He described Olatunji as the ‘grassroots version’ of governor Seyi Makinde in Oluyole with his approach to governance and crises management. He assured that the body will continue to support his administration as a religious body and a critical stakeholder in the development of the Council.

He assured the Council boss of the league’s commitment to prayers for peace, security and progress of the local government, the state and the nation at large.

The cleric pledged that the new leadership would work to strengthen unity among Islamic scholars in Oluyole, promote moral uprightness among youths and contribute meaningfully to social cohesion within various communities.

The event featured special prayers for the local government administration, Oyo State and Nigeria, as well as goodwill messages from religious leaders and community representatives who described the inauguration as a positive step towards deeper engagement between government and religious institutions at the grassroots.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of official certificates to the new executives council of the League following its inauguration.

Present at the event are the Baba Adinni Musulumi Oluyole Local Government, Alhaji Chief Kabiru Olajide Oleyo, Baale Oleyo, and other religious personalities.
