When Dr. Akin Fagbemi first stepped into a science laboratory as a young researcher, few could have imagined that his path would one day lead him into the world of law. With a PhD in Food Biotechnology and years of groundbreaking work in food science, his career seemed firmly rooted in research and public health.

Yet, beneath the lab coat was a curiosity that stretched far beyond microscopes and molecular structures.
Dr. Fagbemi had long observed that behind every food innovation, safety standard, and public health policy, there were laws shaping the system.

That realization sparked a new intellectual pursuit, one that would take him from scientific equations to legal principles. And so, in what many might consider an unconventional twist, he enrolled in the LL.B program at Lead City University.

What followed was a journey marked by determination and discipline.
Balancing work, leadership responsibilities, and rigorous academic demands, Dr. Fagbemi pressed forward, committed to understanding the legal frameworks that govern the food industry.
His efforts paid off. This year, he graduated with an impressive CGPA of 4.39, joining the ranks of top-performing law students.

For him, the transition from science to law was not a departure but a convergence. “The law plays a critical role in everything from food safety to intellectual property,” he often explains.
With the global food industry facing increasing challenges, from contamination risks to regulatory complexities, professionals who can interpret both science and law are becoming indispensable.
This dual expertise is exactly what Dr. Fagbemi hopes to offer. As he prepares to specialize in food law regulations and compliance, he envisions supporting food businesses in navigating complex policies, ensuring consumer protection, and strengthening public health standards.
It is a path that places him at the intersection of two vital fields, one that shapes what we eat, and the other that safeguards how it is produced.
But his journey does not end with a law degree. Dr. Fagbemi is also preparing to release a new book, “Introduction to Food Laws and Regulations.”
The publication aims to serve as a bridge between science and legal practice, offering professionals, students, and industry stakeholders a comprehensive guide to understanding the laws that govern food systems. It is his way of contributing to an emerging field and inspiring others to pursue interdisciplinary innovation.
Throughout his academic pursuit, Dr. Fagbemi remains deeply grateful to the lecturers, the Dean, and the leadership of Lead City University.
Their support, he says, provided the foundation he needed to achieve this long-awaited dream. “Their guidance shaped my understanding of the law and inspired me to pursue excellence,” he reflects.
Today, as he stands ready to step fully into the world of food law, Dr. Akin Fagbemi embodies the power of purposeful reinvention.
His story is a reminder that careers—like people, can evolve, expand, and take unexpected but meaningful turns.
From laboratory benches to legal textbooks, his journey shows that when passion meets opportunity, new possibilities emerge.
And for the future of food policy, safety, and regulatory compliance in Nigeria, his unique blend of expertise may be exactly what the industry needs.
