A moment that could have embarrassed an average leader turned into a defining test of leadership for the Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, as he once again demonstrated empathy and responsiveness in governance.

Hon. Babalola Abiodun, PhD, in a heartfelt statement titled “A Serious Litmus Test on GSM’s Leadership Capacity — Passed on the Spot,” described the governor’s recent wage adjustment approval as a reflection of his humane leadership style and his natural instinct for compassion.
“When humans are faced with unexpected situations or tough questions, we all switch to our default mode — and that default often reveals who we truly are,” Babalola noted. “Governor Makinde’s default mode is empathy. His swift and heartfelt response restored hope and reaffirmed that governance with compassion is still possible.”

He added that the Governor’s prompt action not only touched the people of Ogbomoso but also rekindled faith across Oyo State, reinforcing Makinde’s reputation as a people-oriented leader who feels the pains of the citizens and responds with fatherly understanding.

According to Babalola, “What could have embarrassed an average leader became a lift for Governor Makinde. Give my boss a lemon, and he’ll turn it into lemonade. Take him to a desert, and he’ll make it bloom.”
He emphasized that Makinde’s success is rooted in consistent capacity building and years of deliberate leadership development. “No charisma or spiritual theatrics can replace competence. Like a footballer who stays in form through regular play, Governor Makinde has built his leadership strength through years of learning and preparation,” he said, likening the governor’s experience to that of the biblical David who conquered lions and bears before facing Goliath.
Babalola concluded with prayers for continued divine strength for the governor, commending his wisdom, empathy, and courage in leadership.

“Truly, Oyo State is blessed to have a governor like Seyi Makinde,” he declared.
