A social cultural club in Ibadan, Lagelu Indigenes Club on Saturday honoured the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde with an award of Excellence.


The award was bestowed on Governor Makinde at the maiden edition of Lagelu Day celebration in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of Oyo State and empowerment of the citizens since he came on board.
Speaking at the epoch making programme which was held at Mattan Hotel, Olorunda Abaa, Ibadan, the President of the Club, Pastor Soji Oguntola explained that the club considered Governor Makinde for the award in view of his numerous achievements especially as it concerns Lagelu local government and its citizens.

He hinted that the purpose behind Lagelu Day celebration was meant to promote and showcase their cultural values, enhance economic fortunes, unite social diversities and more specifically brighten their children’s educational prospects through the construction of a well equipped Computer Based Test and Training Centre.


This, according to the President, undoubtedly, arising from their recent contemporary experience and reality, which has provoked their sense of responsibility towards enhancing their children’s technologically compatible learning capabilities.

While receiving the award, Engr. Seyi Makinde who was represented by the Chairman Local Government Staff Pension Board, Hon. Akeem Ige to receive the award, appreciated the planning committee and all members of the club for the honour bestowed on him.
Gov. Makinde who disclosed that he was happy to identify with members of the club and their lofty goals and vision, assured of his continued support and commitment to grassroot development and conducive environment for the investors and citizens’ investments to thrive.

The event which attracted a large turn out of Lagelu sons and daughters and indeed entire communities in the council area for the maiden celebration, witnessed the presentation of awards to other distinguished personalities. Among them were Dr. Sunday Ola Makinde, Prelate Methodist Church Nigeria, Chief Sikiru Adeyemi Soladoye, former President-General CCII, the Alara of Ara kingdom, Oba Dr. Olubayo Adesola Windapo, Alhaja Alirat Bolanle Oladele (Nee Abanikanda), Chief Yemi Idowu, Princess Alirat Okeleye (Nee Adelakun), Chief Hon. Olayinka Segelu Akintola Oladimeji and two of the late Olubadan of Ibadaland, Oba Odulana Odugade and Oba Dr. Senator Lekan Balogun who got a post humous awards respectively.
Other personalities that attended the event were Senator Dr. Yunus Akintunde who represents the Oyo Central senatorial district and also served as the Chief launcher, Hon. Wasiu Olafisoye Akinmoyede that represents Akinyele/Lagelu federal constituency, Chairman Lagelu local government, Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen Morenikeji, Hon. Olajide Akintunde Emmanuel that represents Lagelu State constituency.
Others include Senator Kola Balogun, Barr. Niyi Ajewole, President-General CCII, Engr. Dotun Sanusi who was represented at the event by Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade, Architect Hazzan Giwa, Hon. Abideen Adeaga and a host of others.
