The Oyo State Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Akin-Funmilayo Williams, has called on developers and homeowners to seek proper approvals before embarking on construction projects, stressing the government’s commitment to curbing building collapse in the state.

Addressing journalists in Ibadan on Thursday, the Commissioner said the ministry is intensifying efforts to ensure strict compliance with building regulations to safeguard lives and properties.

“We will protect lives and properties in the state by ensuring that house owners and contractors comply with the building regulations,” Akin-Funmilayo said. “We don’t want to lose any life to building collapse. We also don’t want our people to lose their properties. So, as a government, we will do what is required of us to stamp out building collapse in the state.”

He urged individuals and organizations intending to erect structures to approach the ministry for proper approval and technical guidance, noting that compliance is essential to preventing structural failures and disasters.

The commissioner reiterated that the state government remains committed to urban safety, and will not compromise on the standards required for construction activities.
