- Mayegun Sunday Olusegun Babanumi, a Federal House of Representatives aspirant and respected community leader, has dismissed recent political coalitions forming against the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State and Nigeria, describing them as “a joke” lacking vision and cohesion.
Babanumi emphasized that no coalition without a clear agenda for development and stability can unseat the current wave of progress being led by Governor Seyi Makinde.

“In all sincerity, any coalition forming now with the aim of pushing PDP out of Oyo State nor destabilize our national party is a joke,” Babanumi stated. “Governor Makinde’s administration has brought structure, transparency, and purposeful governance. The people of Oyo are not blind to the positive changes happening across the state.”
Reflecting on his own political journey as a one-time Ibadan NorthWest Chairmanship aspirant and a longstanding chieftain in both the local government and the state, Babanumi said he has witnessed first-hand the transformation driven by the current administration.

“Having been deeply involved in grassroots politics, I understand what the people need. Governor Makinde’s approach aligns with those needs; education, infrastructure, and inclusive governance. What we need now is continuity, not chaos disguised as coalition,” he added.

Babanumi, who is vying to represent Ibadan NorthWest/SouthWest Federal Constituency in 2027, urged political actors to prioritize the interest of the people over personal ambition.

“Our people deserve leadership with integrity and experience, not recycled politics. Those aligning in the name of coalition must ask themselves: what do we offer beyond opposition?”
He concluded by calling on the electorate to remain vigilant and to support leaders who have demonstrated capacity and commitment, saying, “Oyo State must not be dragged backward. We’ve come too far under the PDP and Governor Makinde to gamble with unserious alliances.”
