In a move aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery in Oyo State, the Ibadan Hilltop Lions Club, under Lions Club International District 404B, has donated a borehole facility to the Jericho Nursing Home, Ibadan.

The project, which cost ₦4.2 million, is expected to improve access to clean water for the hospital, thereby supporting qualitative, accessible, and affordable healthcare for residents of the state and Nigeria at large.

In her address, President of the Ibadan Hilltop Lions Club, Lion Ayodeji Awobusuyi, reaffirmed the club’s commitment to community service. She noted that Lions Club International, founded in 1917 by Melvin Jones in the U.S., continues to champion causes including blindness prevention, environmental conservation, hunger alleviation, and support for vulnerable groups.

She emphasized that the borehole project aligns with the administration’s goals of sustainable healthcare and community well-being under the leadership of Governor Makinde.

Lion Awobusuyi urged the management and staff of Jericho Nursing Home to ensure the proper use and maintenance of the borehole facility to guarantee its longevity and effectiveness.

She also acknowledged Lion Akeem Agbaje for his humanitarian contributions and specific support toward the completion of the borehole project.

In his remark, the Chairman of the Oyo State Hospitals’ Management Board (OYSHMB), Dr. Akin Fagbemi, represented by the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Femi Adesanya, commended the Lions Club for its continuous partnership with the state government in the health sector.

He highlighted the Club’s role in contributing to developmental projects across healthcare facilities in the state.

Dr. Fagbemi also praised Governor Seyi Makinde for his administration’s unwavering support to the health sector, citing the ongoing free health mission across all 33 local government areas, prompt payment of salaries and allowances to healthcare workers, and recent recruitment drives.

“Water is crucial to the smooth operation of any hospital. Without water, essential services become difficult to provide,” Dr. Fagbemi noted, as he thanked the Lions Club for their donation and urged them to sustain their support, particularly in areas like blindness prevention, nutrition, and care for the elderly and underprivileged.

Dignitaries at the event included the Director of Finance and Accounts, Alhaji Akeem Tanimowo; Director of Personnel, Alhaji Jamiu Busari; Director of Hospital Administration, Mr. Olatunde Oladipo; and the Chief Medical Director of Jericho Nursing Home, Dr. Funso Adegoke, among others.
