Hon. Lanre Sarumi, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ibadan North Federal Constituency in the last general election, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of two prominent figures in Oyo State; Chief Lamidi Ajadi and Ambassador Ibironke Apinke Adefope.

In a heartfelt message released on Tuesday, Sarumi described the losses as profoundly personal, noting that both individuals played pivotal roles in his life, offering mentorship, guidance, and familial love.

“Chief Ajadi was not only a revered elder in the Muslim community of Ibadan, he was a true father to me,” Sarumi stated. “Our bond was one of deep love, trust, and spiritual kinship. His wisdom, strength, and quiet dignity guided me like only a true father could. His loss is personal and profound.”

He also paid tribute to Ambassador Adefope, describing her as a trailblazer in Nigerian diplomacy and a maternal figure who deeply influenced his journey.

“Ambassador Ibironke Apinke Adefope, a respected member of the Oyo State Elders Council, was a beloved mother-figure,” he said. “Her wisdom, elegance, and courage inspired me. She was a voice I leaned on often; steady, clear, and full of care. Her honest counsel grounded me.”

Sarumi acknowledged the immense contributions both late figures made to the development of Oyo State and the personal impact they had on his life.

“Their impact on my life and our community is beyond words,” he added. “I extend my heartfelt condolences to both families, and the people of Oyo State. Their light remains with us. Their legacy lives on.”

The passing of Chief Ajadi and Ambassador Adefope has been widely felt across Oyo State, where both were known not only for their leadership but for their humility, wisdom, and dedication to public service. Whilst Ambassador Adefope made her mark through impactful service in public office, Chief Lamidi Ajadi distinguished himself as an astute businessman whose influence extended across both religious and commercial spheres.
