The ancient city of Ibadan came alive on Saturday, May 17, 2025, as the grand finale of the Ibadan Cultural Festival, organized by the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), was held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke-Ado.

The festival, a week-long celebration of Ibadan’s rich cultural heritage, climaxed in a colourful display of unity, tradition, and recognition of distinguished contributions to the city’s development.

Among the dignitaries present were the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, who was honoured with the prestigious “Outstanding Friend of Ibadanland” award for his remarkable support and friendship towards the city and its people.

Also in attendance was the former Governor of Oyo State, Oba (Sen.) Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, who gracefully represented the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin 1

His presence not only underscored the significance of the event but also reaffirmed the traditional institution’s strong connection with the people and the cultural heritage of Ibadanland.

Oloye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, Aare Egbe Omo Balogun of Ibadanland and President of the Jericho Businessmen Club (JBC), expressed profound joy over the success of the event. Speaking at the occasion, Oloye Adegoke stated:

“Ibadanland is our common goal.

This festival is not just a celebration of our culture, but a call for unity, development, and the preservation of our values.

I commend the efforts of the CCII, the leadership of our revered Olubadan, and the commitment of Governor Seyi Makinde for advancing the cause of our great city.”

The event featured an impressive turnout of indigenous and societal clubs of Ibadanland, all adorned in vibrant and traditional attire that showcased the city’s cultural splendor.

Performances, awards, and exhibitions highlighted the richness of Yoruba customs and underscored Ibadan’s central place in Nigeria’s history.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Solutions 93.9 FM emphasized the importance of the festival in projecting Ibadan’s image both locally and internationally.

“We look forward to more celebrations like this that will put Ibadan on the culture and tourism map of Nigeria and the world,” he stated.

The CCII Festival continues to serve as a unifying platform for Ibadan indigenes and a significant step towards the cultural renaissance and socio-economic progress of the city.
