The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Chief (Barrister) Olumuyiwa Makinde on his recent elevation to the traditional title of Aare Onibon Olubadan.

In a statement issued on Friday, Hon. Akintayo described Chief Makinde’s elevation as a well-deserved honour that reflects his dedication, integrity, and longstanding contributions to the cultural heritage and development of Ibadanland.
Chief Makinde, a prominent legal practitioner and respected community leader, was officially elevated to the title of Aare Onibon Olubadan on Friday, May 9, 2025.

His rise marks another significant step in the traditional hierarchy of the Olubadan chieftaincy system.

It will be recalled that Chief Makinde was previously elevated from the position of Ajia Olubadan to Bada Olubadan in October 2023, demonstrating a steady and commendable progression within the revered traditional structure.

Hon. Akintayo, while rejoicing with Chief Makinde, his family, and the entire Ibadan community, emphasized the importance of preserving and honouring cultural institutions. He noted that the Olubadan chieftaincy line remains a symbol of unity, identity, and leadership in Ibadan.
“I join all sons and daughters of Ibadanland in celebrating a distinguished son, Chief (Barrister) Olumuyiwa Makinde, on his elevation to the title of Aare Onibon Olubadan. This milestone is a testament to his unwavering service to our people and his commitment to upholding our cherished traditions,” Akintayo said.

The council chairman also prayed for Chief Makinde’s continued success and wisdom as he takes on greater responsibilities within the traditional leadership structure.

The Aare Onibon title is one of the senior chieftaincy positions in the Otun line of the Olubadan succession system, bringing Chief Makinde closer to the Olubadan throne.
