The Oyo State Hospitals’ Management Board has initiated a strategic partnership with the Department of Food Technology, University of Ibadan.

The collaboration which aims to produce and provide supplementary foods to address malnutrition and stunted growth among children in the state and beyond.
While Addressing Malnutrition through Local Solutions
During the meeting, The Chairman Oyo Hospital Management Board, Dr. Fagbemi emphasized that Oyo State and Nigeria are making progress in utilizing home-grown materials and systems to tackle malnutrition.

He attributed the progress to the support of Governor Oluseyi Makinde, who has been instrumental in promoting sustainable healthcare delivery under the Omi-Tuntun 2.0 initiative.

In his remarks, The Head of the Department of Food Technology, University of Ibadan, Professor Gibson Agboola, highlighted the benefits of using indigenous crops and edible insects to produce food supplements.

These benefits include: Local food supplements which can enhance children’s nutritional intake, Proper nutrition can also lead to higher productivity in adulthood, and Adequate nutrition which can significantly reduce mortality rates among children.
Professor Agboola urged both private and public institutions to support this initiative, emphasizing that food supplements are crucial for good health and increased productivity.
The partnership between Oyo State Hospitals’ Management Board and the University of Ibadan marks a significant step towards addressing malnutrition in the state.
