The Oyo State Government has officially flagged off activities for the highly anticipated Oyo Youth Summit 2025, as the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Adegoke Wasilat, led a high-powered press briefing at the Government Press Centre to shed light on the event’s details and objectives.

With the theme “Unlocking Youth Potential; Addressing Needs, Fulfilling Dreams,” the summit is designed as a platform to galvanize the energy, innovation, and leadership capacity of Oyo youths, aged between 18 and 45 years, and channel them toward productive, civic, and economic development.

The press briefing witnessed the presence of notable youth-focused leaders including the Chairman of the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development, Prince Falana Adebowale Adebayo; the Oyo State PDP Youth Leader and Acting Publicity Secretary, Hon. Michael Ogunsina; and the Special Adviser to Governor Makinde on Political Matters, Hon. Deji Ola, Hon. Victor Olojede SSA Student Matters, who all pledged their full commitment to ensuring a successful and impactful summit.

According to Hon. Adegoke Wasilat, the summit is a bold step by the state government to create dialogue, mentorship, and engagement platforms for youth to learn, lead, and thrive. “We are not just convening another event—we are activating a movement that will shape the future of Oyo State. Our youth must be seen, heard, and empowered,” she stated.

Activities and Event Highlights:

The two-day summit, which will hold on April 29 and 30, 2025, will kick off with an Awareness Walk and Sensitization Campaign against Drug Abuse. Strategic locations across different zones in the state have been identified to engage communities on the dangers of substance abuse and the role of youths in fostering a healthier society.

Day 2, tagged the “Summit Proper,” will feature a highly engaging panel session with seasoned professionals and youth leaders, focusing on entrepreneurship, digital innovation, civic responsibility, and leadership development.

Adding a touch of glamour and recognition to the summit, the evening of Day 2 will host a Special Dinner and Award Night to celebrate outstanding youth contributions across sectors in the state.

Governor Seyi Makinde, whose administration is widely regarded for its youth-centered policies and inclusive governance, will serve as Chief Host of the event. His continued commitment to empowering the youth of Oyo has made the state a reference point in participatory development.

The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. (Mrs.) Victoria Onaolapo, Managing Director of BOVAS Group, a woman renowned for her entrepreneurial prowess and impactful leadership.

In his remarks, Prince Falana Adebowale emphasized that the Oyo Youth Summit 2025 represents more than a gathering. “It is a platform for activation—where young people bring their ideas, connect with opportunities, and position themselves as critical players in the state’s development trajectory,” he said.

Echoing the sentiment, Hon. Michael Ogunsina noted that the PDP-led government in the state has always placed youths at the core of its vision. “This summit is a reflection of our ongoing commitment to raise a generation that is bold, responsible, and ready to lead,” he added.
