Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has pledged that the late elder statesman and former governor of the state, Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, will be honoured with a befitting state burial.

Makinde made this known on Tuesday while speaking to journalists at the private residence of the deceased at Molete area of Ibadan.
Upon arrival, Governor Makinde was received by the wife of the deceased, Mrs. Aderonke Olunloyo.

Addressing the wife and family members of the deceased, Makinde described Pa Olunloyo as a towering figure in Oyo State’s political and intellectual history, whose contributions to governance, mathematics, and public service spanned decades and inspired many.


He said Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo was not just a former governor but a brilliant mind, a respected leader, and a symbol of integrity and excellence.

He added that the state government has already begun consultations with the Olunloyo family to finalize arrangements for a state funeral that will reflect the legacy and stature of the late statesman.
Born in 1935, Olunloyo was renowned as one of Nigeria’s earliest PhD holders in mathematics. He served as Governor of the old Oyo State in 1983 during the brief civilian rule under the National Party of Nigeria (NPN). Despite his short tenure, he was widely respected for his intellect and vision for the development of the state.

He disclosed that three top officials of the state government have been assigned to liaise with the Olunloyo family towards a seamless funeral arrangements.
Meanwhile, governor Makinde also visited the private residence of late Seriki Adini Musulumi of Yorubaland; Chief Yekini Adeojo, who passed away less about 48 hours earlier before the death of Pa Omololu Olunloyo.
