The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State is currently facing a surge of resignations in the wake of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s decision to leave the party for the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

A growing number of APC members, particularly those aligned with El-Rufai, have been exiting the party in significant numbers.

Resignation letters reviewed on Monday revealed that several prominent figures from his administration were among those stepping away.

Notable exits include Ja’afaru Ibrahim Sani, former Commissioner for Local Government, and Hajiya Hafsat Mohammed Baba, former Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development.

Both officials formally submitted their resignation letters to their ward chairmen on Monday.

Sani, in his letter, attributed his departure to a perceived lack of appreciation from the APC leadership, despite the efforts made to strengthen the party.

He explained that after extensive discussions with key stakeholders in Anchau, Kubau Local Government Area, and Kaduna State, he had decided to leave the party immediately.

Similarly, Hafsat Baba voiced her dissatisfaction with the APC, stating that it had deviated from its core values of justice, peace, and unity.

As a former National Woman Leader of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), she had supported the merger that formed the APC to foster democratic governance.

However, she lamented that the party had strayed from its original mission, leading to her decision to resign.

Despite the wave of departures, Kaduna APC has dismissed concerns over El-Rufai’s defection, maintaining that the party remains strong.
