The Senator representing Kogi Central in the National Assembly, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has vehemently rejected her six-month suspension imposed by the Senate. Speaking after the decision, she declared, “This injustice will not be sustained!” as she exited the Senate chamber, signaling her refusal to accept the disciplinary action.

The suspension, handed down during a plenary session on Thursday, followed a recommendation by Senate Committee on Ethics Chairman, Senator Neda Imasuen. The committee had found Natasha guilty of misconduct related to her sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. In its report, the committee recommended that her salary and security details be withdrawn and that her office be locked, with her legislative aides’ salaries also suspended during the six-month term.

Despite efforts by some senators to reduce her suspension to three months, a majority vote in the Senate maintained the original six-month penalty. Lawmakers stipulated that the suspension could be reconsidered or lifted if Senator Natasha were to submit a written apology to the Senate for what was described as “disrespecting the Senate.”

Senate President Akpabio further clarified at the Red Chambers that any amendment to the suspension would be contingent upon her formal apology. As the controversy deepens, the Senator’s resolute rejection of the Senate’s decision has intensified debates over accountability and respect within the legislative chamber.

Lagos Reporters will continue to monitor the situation and provide exclusive updates as this political saga unfolds.
