The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of pensioners by approving the payment of ₦550 million in gratuities and death benefits for another batch of retirees and the next of kin of deceased pensioners.

The Chairman of the State Local Govt. Staff Pension Board, Hon. Akeem Ige announced this at the Flag Off Ceremony of monthly payment of gratuity and death benefits to retirees and Next of Kin to deceased retirees.

Hon. Ige, stated that the government introduced the monthly payment system to accelerate gratuity disbursement and improve the well-being of beneficiaries, with 134 retirees set to benefit this month.

He further noted that the recent upward pension review, aligned with the minimum wage adjustments has set the minimum pension payment in the state at ₦25,000.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Local Government Staff Pension Board, Alh. Lukman Muraina stated that the customary “I Am Alive” program, designed to verify the status of retirees in the state, will commence after the completion of the monthly payment exercise.

Beneficiaries thanked the governor for the prompt payment of their gratuities and other allowances, acknowledging its positive impact on their well being.
