The market men and women of Owode have been assured that none of them will lose their shops after the redevelopment project that his administration wants to start through Connect Global Resources and Limited.
This assurance was made by the Political Head of the Administrator of Ibadan South LCDA, Hon Ogundeji Teslim, during an interactive and peaceful meeting with the executives of Owode market and the management of Connect Global Resources and Service Limited at the council’s Open Treasury Department.
According to the council boss, the meeting was called to informed the marketers on the reason behind the re development of their market and also to sought for their cooperation with the developer, he explained that he took the step in a reaction to a letter that was emanated from the office of the Auditor General for the Local Government asking for the reason revenues were not generated from Owode market, and that is what prompt him to conduct an investigation to know the exact things that make the market not functioning as expected, and it was revealed that the project at the market had been abandoned for over ten years, and that’s the cause of non revenue generated, he added that he made several consultations with many experts with a view to find a lasting solutions to the problem, the only alternative is to look for a developer that capable of handling the re development of the market in a manner that will not affect the market users adversely as the council purse is not buoyant enough to do the project now, and that is reason for engaged the service of the developer in our midst.
Hon. Ogundeji also commended the Executive Governor of Oyo State for his visionary role, saying that the people of Oyo State can only thank God for giving us a Governor like His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde said his sterling performance so far has made him stand tall among his predecessors; he, therefore, appreciated all the market men and women as well as the developer for the understanding and cooperation he from them; he also extended his appreciation to the Executive Chairman of Ibadan South East Local Government, Hon. Alawode Emmanuel Oluwole, thank you for the support in making the meeting a reality.
In their separate address, the market chairman, Mr Sadiq Taiwo Folorunso and Iyaloja, Mrs Aminat, appeal to the developer to make the shops’ cost minimal and affordable. They reminded the developer that the market is a local one, and the majority of the marketers are less privileged and aged and can’t afford the rent if it is too expensive; they also appeal to the developer to create a temporary space for the market users pending the completion of the market renovation.
In his response, the chief executive officer and managing director of Connect Global Resources and Service Limited, Mr Segun Adebanjo, made it clear they are not going to do anything that will adversely affect anybody but rather to improve their market strategies and activities; he added that they want to remodel the market and not to rebuild it.
He assured them that the project would be executed at the mercy of marketers by providing space for every category of marketers. He concluded that the execution work would kick off the second week of December. In addition, he expressed his appreciation to the Executive Governor of Oyo State for rehabilitating the road leading to the market.
In his address, the chairman of all P.D.P in Oyo State, Alh. Lukman Adesina assured the marketers that the developer was competent as he was not a novice. He promised that he would never do anything that would harm the market men & women.
Also, the P.D.P. chairman for Ibadan South East Local Government, Alhaji Sulaiman Adesina, corroborated the previous speakers and implored the marketers to cooperate with the developer for the smooth execution of the project.
In her closing remarks, the Acting Head of Local Government Administration, Alhaja Olanrewaju, urged the market men and women to fully cooperate with the developer, as the intervention is not to their detriment but for their betterment. The Super for Commerce, Hon Saheed Biodun, and the Super for Works, Azeez Saheed, were present at the meeting. Also included in the meeting were Ag, Director of Administration, Alh Ogundele, Ag. DDF Mr. Olaniyan, and the estate officer.
