Former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola has sounded an alarm about Nigeria’s escalating economic crisis, cautioning that the current hardships could lead to a revolution capable of unseating President Bola Tinubu’s government if immediate action is not taken. Speaking at a national dialogue organized by the Parliamentary System Support Group in the House of Representatives, Aregbesola expressed concern over the growing wealth disparity and the severe socio-economic divide between the rich and poor.

The former governor, once a close ally of Tinubu, described the concentration of wealth in the hands of a small minority as troubling, noting that the prosperity once enjoyed by a broader segment of Nigerians is now accessible to only a few. “When I was born and during my developmental years, wealth was not as limited to the hands of a very few people as it is today,” he stated. “We are in deep trouble, and if we don’t address these challenges, we are risking a revolt.”

Aregbesola highlighted Nigeria’s “worsening economic, political, and spiritual conditions” as evidence of the dire state of the nation, further urging the government to take the economic struggles of Nigerians seriously. He argued that any system denying people fair opportunities or rights is bound to face resistance, saying, “If other things fail, people can revolt.”

As inflation surges and economic hardship grows, Aregbesola called for strategic governance reforms to bridge the gap between the rich and poor, warning that failing to do so could lead to unrest. His remarks serve as a call for introspection within the Tinubu administration on the need to address the worsening conditions facing everyday Nigerians.
