The Chairman of the Oyo State Pension Board, Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige, has lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for his landmark decision to implement an N80,000 minimum wage for pensioners in the state.

The N80,000 minimum wage and incentives are part of a broader effort by Governor Makinde to improve the welfare of workers and pensioners in the state, a move that has been widely applauded across different sectors.

In a statement, Hon. Ige emphasized that the Governor’s initiative not only elevates the standard of living but also demonstrates a deep commitment to fulfilling promises made in the state.

“I must commend Governor Makinde for his visionary leadership and unwavering support in Oyo State. The N80,000 minimum wage is a bold and progressive move that shows the Governor’s genuine concern for the welfare of everyone who is serving and served this state with dedication. This is a significant leap forward for Oyo State,” Ige stated.

The new minimum wage will ensure that workers and pensioners receive more equitable compensation, addressing long-standing concerns about inadequate pension payments that many retirees have faced in the past. The development also aligns with the Governor’s broader efforts to improve public sector compensation across the board.

Pensioners in Oyo State have reacted positively to the news, issuing a statement expressing their satisfaction and pledging their unwavering support for Governor Makinde.

In the statement, the pensioners described Makinde as a “Governor with the Midas touch,” noting that his reforms have set a new standard for worker and pensioner welfare in the state.

“Governor Makinde has not only raised the bar for the workers in Oyo State but has also ensured that pensioners are treated with the dignity they deserve. With the new pension plan in place, we are now more secure and confident in our retirement years. We are fully committed to supporting him beyond 2027,” the pensioners’ statement read.

The Governor’s leadership has been marked by a series of pro-worker policies since he assumed office in 2019, including salary increases for civil servants, the implementation of free education, and significant investments in infrastructure.

His administration has been widely praised for its efforts to tackle poverty and inequality, with particular focus on social welfare programs that benefit vulnerable groups, including pensioners.
