The JDS Support Group wishes to address recent speculations surrounding the gubernatorial ambitions of the Jagunmolu Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, and to clarify that Chief Sanusi has not yet formally entered the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State. As a group that has been steadfastly advocating for Chief Sanusi’s leadership in Oyo’s political sphere, we urge supporters and the public to remain calm and allow the structured process to unfold.

Speaking on behalf of the JDS Support Group, Convener Mr. Rahmon Alawode stated, “Our movement has always been a grassroots appeal, involving numerous stakeholders and mobilization efforts to encourage Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi to consider the governorship. However, he has yet to formally join a political party or declare his candidacy. His stance remains unchanged: he will only consider a gubernatorial role if it serves the greater good of Oyo’s citizens.”

Alawode further explained that should Chief Sanusi decide to enter the race, it would involve joining a political party and pursuing the nomination process. As of now, the movement is still in the preliminary stages, and Chief Sanusi’s acceptance of this appeal is not guaranteed. The group emphasized that Chief Sanusi has continually maintained his commitment to integrity and his insistence that he will not engage with political systems that contain “miscreants” undermining constructive leadership.

Mr. Alawode reiterated that “JDS is a man of truth, focus, and vision, dedicated to the service of humanity and the development of Oyo State.” Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, the CEO of Ilaji Sports and Resorts and a respected figure in Ibadanland, has dedicated his life to meaningful contributions through initiatives in education, sports, and community development. These efforts, rather than the pursuit of power for its own sake, continue to be his primary focus.

In recent weeks, Chief Sanusi has expressed frustration with certain aspects of the Oyo State political landscape, labeling it as a “circus.” This sentiment is rooted in his commitment to maintaining integrity and staying true to his ideals of transparency and progress. As Mr. Alawode conveyed, Chief Sanusi’s decision on whether to pursue the governorship will ultimately hinge on whether it aligns with his vision of impactful governance that genuinely benefits the citizens.

In light of the reactions from supporters, Chief Sanusi has expressed deep appreciation for their trust and loyalty to his vision. He has urged his supporters to look toward identifying and supporting a competent leader who will earnestly prioritize the interests of Oyo State. “To all supporters of JDS, your dedication to the cause is appreciated. Please channel your support toward leaders committed to sustainable growth and transformation in Oyo,” he stated.

While the possibility of Chief Sanusi’s candidacy remains open, his legacy of impactful programs—such as the JDS Football League and ongoing youth empowerment efforts—continues to be a testament to his commitment to Oyo’s future. For now, the JDS Support Group calls upon all well-wishers to remain patient as Chief Sanusi contemplates the best path forward for Oyo State.
