The Deputy Governor of Oyo state, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal has called on the newly elected executives National Association of Oke-ogun students (NAOOS) executives to be united for the progress and development of Oke-ogun zone.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at the Atisbo Local Government on Friday, the Deputy Governor noted that NAOOS can only propel the zone’s growth with unity.
He commended the contributions of the outgoing excos, led by Oluwaseun Richard, and urged the new excos, led by Comrade Ishak Yusuf, to work hard, saying that hard work leads to greater work.
He noted that NAOOS offers a platform for young minds to truly express their talent and be elevated to a higher level, and that serving as president is a precursor for becoming chairman or vice chairman.
The Deputy Governor, who was flanked alongside his wife, Chief Mrs Ajibola Lawal, equally thanked the senior special assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on student matters, Victor Olojede, as well as the chairman of Atisbo Local Government, for ensuring a successful transition.
He urged the new executives to continue speaking with one voice, pointing out that the association cannot advance if its executives are divided
He said: “Our administration is ready to work with you. Whatever you think is needed for the development of Oke-Ogun zone should be pushed forward and we will support you. And you must be united.
“As a student, you are more viable and articulate, so I urge you to use your youthful age to bring development to Oke-ogun zone. The challenges we have here is quite different from challenges young people are facing in other places.
“You must also key into what is ongoing in the world to sharpen your knowledge. You don’t have to be mislead but rather look inward to what is needed for the development of Oke-Ogun zone. And I also urge you to listen to royal fathers for development.”
Barr. Lawal further insisted that the Oke-Ogun zone’s development lies in unity, stating that there isn’t a single sociocultural indigenous association that he hasn’t been a part of in the last 35 to 40 years.
He noted that when youths are united, development will spread across the zone, just as he also urged them to look into their constitution of ensuring a two year term with an option to re- contest.
He equally urged the new excos to push their bill to him for his personal support, adding that a one-year tenure might not be sufficient to accomplish the necessary aim.
Earlier in his welcome address, the outgoing NAOS president, Oluwaseun Richard, who congratulated the Newley elected excos said that NAOOS is a platform that will showcase their talent if it is judicially used.
He urged them to collaborate with the current administration to succeed, emphasising that his successful use of his position as NAOOS president allowed him to advance to the position of chief of staff to a local government chairman.
“If you make judicious use of the office, you will be relevant politically. Additionally, academic excellence is a prerequisite. Therefore, I strongly advise you to utilise the office and collaborate with the SSA office on student matters.”
Victor Olojede, the SSA to Governor Makinde on student matters, however stated that the deputy governor’s presence at the innaguratuon event was due to his dedication to the Oke-ogun zone’s development.
He wished the outgone led excos the best of luck in life and praised them for supporting Governor Makinde’s reelection.
While speaking on behalf of the new executives, Comrade Ishak Yusuf however extended his deepest gratitude to the Deputy Governor of Oyo state, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, describing him as a benefactor, NAOOS restorational capacity, gravitational radar, redemptional force, coumenical leader, juristic titan cum legal luminary, political colossus, talent excavator, invincible unifier and consolidator, epitome of competency -based leadership, patriotic father and Jagaban of Oke-Ogun zone.
He equally extended his gratitude to the entirety of the Oke-Ogun students for finding him and his fellow executives worthy of the respective leadership positions and promised not to disappoint them.
The event was attended by all the local government chairmen in Oke-ogun zone, royal fathers and host of others.
