New Year: Open Salawu gives N5,000 each to over 1000 household in Ogbomoso zone

A chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo state, Engr. Muftau Open Salawu has doled out N5,000 each as a means of financial support to over one thousand poorest of the poor household in Ogbomoso zone to mitigate the Nigeria’s economic challenges.

Open Salawu, who is the Babalaje of Ogbomoso land, made this known in a new year statement made available to journalists on Monday.

According to the Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Project Delivery, 2023 was extremely difficult in all spheres of life, including politics, the economy, and security.

He noted that despite important actions done by the national government, Nigeria’s inflation is roughly 30% and its exchange rate depreciated by more than 100% in 2023.

While bemoaning the fact that the contentious minimum wage was worth more eight years ago than what the workers are currently receiving as a result of inflation and currency devaluation, the politician thanked God for helping Nigerians get through 2023 and expressed his hope that 2024 would bring about greater prosperity for everyone.

He also commended the Oyo state government for significantly enhancing the state’s security architecture and urged the federal government to capitalise on Oyo’s well-established security system by adding more infrastructure to the state.

The statement read: “The year 2023 was a very challenging to every phase of life. Be it economic, politics, security but we thank God for seeing us through it and we hope 2024 will be more prosperous for us all.

“Nigeria inflation is about 30% and exchange rate suffered more than 100% devaluation in the year 2023, despite critical measures taken by the central government. It so sad that the controversial minimum wage have more value 8 years ago than what the workers are having now due to naira devaluation and inflation.

“Politics as it’s expected in every change in administration attract new policy and policy somersault that do have adverse effects on the projections generally.

“Security could be better throughout the country. Oyo State Government has tremendously improved the security architecture of the state and Federal government can leverage on the established security system of Oyo by injecting more infrastructure in to the state.

“Many families have not been feeding too well as a result of high cost of living, inflation, low income. In view of all these challenges, I have decided to give 1000 household a financial support of 5,000 each. May the new year bring Us happiness, peace and prosperity. Wishing you a joyous 2024.”
