Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has described the late governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu as a resolute democrat who was blessed with rare audacity and bravery in a land without good leadership.
The Yoruba rights group mentioned this in a short statement released to mourn Akeredolu’s death via its secretary, Gboyega Adejumo, while commending the late governor for his matchless roles towards the establishment of a regional outfit, Amotekun, to fight insecurity in the south-western states of Nigeria.
The statement reads: “It came as a rude shock to us in the Afẹ́nifẹ́re as the news of the passage of the Governor of Ondo State, Arákùnrin Olurotimi Akeredolu filtered through the airwaves. Yet another illustrious, forthright and resolute democrat, passes on, in a land lacking leaders blessed with audacity, bravery, daring determination, endurance, fearlessness finesse, fortitude, gallantry, grit, heroism, prowess spirit, spunk tenacity and valour.
“We remember you today and always will cherish great moments we all shared individually and collectively with you. May the valiant soul of Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu SAN, CON rest in peace. And may God guide the new Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, as he assumes the leadership of Ondo State.”
Meanwhile, Akeredolu’s son, Oluwarotimi O. Akeredolu Jnr had claimed that his father died in his sleep while receiving treatment for prostate cancer in Germany.
Oluwarotimi made this revelation in a statement he released on Wednesday evening, appreciating all those who felt sympathetic for his father’s death and showed love to the bereaved family.
He added that the burial arrangement of his father would be communicated to the public in due time and urged people to allow his family to enjoy their privacy in this mourning period.
