The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has declared that members of his administration with political ambitions are free to publicly show their interest ahead of future elections.

Makinde made the statement during the 2026 Omi Tuntun Iftar held at the Oyo State Government House, where he addressed a gathering of political leaders, technocrats, religious leaders, heads of ministries, and board chairmen.
Reacting to reports suggesting that he had restricted those working with him from displaying campaign materials, the governor clarified that no such directive exists.

“I have read in the news that I haven’t freed those working with me who also have ambitions to contest for offices, that they now have my grace to mount their billboards and banners,” Makinde said.

According to him, those interested in contesting for political offices are free to express their ambitions openly.
The governor, however, emphasized that their loyalty should not be to him personally but to the people and development of the state.

“They don’t have to be loyal to Seyi Makinde, but to the people of Oyo State and the state’s development,” he added.

Makinde also urged aspirants within his administration to proudly identify with the ruling party, stressing that the party remains strong in the state.
“They should put the PDP logo on their billboards and banners; we are going nowhere,” the governor stated.
The Omi Tuntun Iftar event attracted a large number of dignitaries, including leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, government officials, religious figures, and other stakeholders who gathered to break the Ramadan fast and discuss governance and development in the state.
The governor’s remarks are widely seen as a signal encouraging open political participation within his administration while reinforcing commitment to the party and the continued development of Oyo State.
