The political atmosphere in Ibadan South West Local Government witnessed a significant boost as stakeholders, party leaders, and grassroots supporters gathered at the ward level at ward 12 to formally receive the declaration of Hon. Afolabi Olabisi Habibat OLABAT for the Oyo State House of Assembly, Ibadan South West Constituency II, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The declaration, which drew a large turnout of party faithful and community members, was not just a political event but a strong statement on the growing influence of women in Oyo State politics. Hon. Olabat, widely recognized for her grassroots engagement and strategic contributions to party success, was presented as a credible and tested aspirant ready to serve her constituency.
A key highlight of the event was the overwhelming endorsement from stakeholders of the party who described her as a committed party loyalist tested and trusted as well as an effective political strategist. Since 2018, Hon. OLABAT has played an integral role within the GSM political structure from GSM defender to GSM Advocate to Gsmist , contributing significantly to the victories recorded in both the first and second elections of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Ward Stakeholders, Hon. Comrade Balogun Yinka (ENERGY), reflected on her longstanding involvement in the political development of Ibadan South West. He noted that “Olabat has been part of the struggle and growth of this local government for years. Her consistency, loyalty, and strategic input have helped shape many of our successes.”

Also lending his voice, Hon. Kazeem Major, a former chairmanship aspirant, expressed optimism about her candidacy, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity. He stated that “it is encouraging to see a woman step forward from our ward. This is a progressive move, and it reflects the kind of representation we need at this time to corroborate Governor Seyi Makinde success.”

The Women Leader of ward 12, Mrs Iyabo Katike, strongly advocated for gender consideration in the party’s ticket allocation. In her remarks, she stressed that “as the only female aspirant in the race within the IBSW LGA, she deserves serious consideration. Women must be given the opportunity to lead and contribute meaningfully.”

In a show of support from the state level, Mrs. Ayodeni Aluko Iseya, foremost Oyo state media consultant to Governor Seyi Makinde, commended Hon. Olabat’s track record, particularly in human capacity development. She affirmed that “her contributions over the years, especially in empowering people and supporting development initiatives, speak volumes about her readiness for higher responsibility.”
The Ward Chairman, Hon. Michael Omotoso, also warmly received the aspirant, describing her as a familiar and dependable figure within the political space. According to him, “Olabat is not a stranger to us. She has always been present, working and supporting the growth of the party at the grassroots.”
Adding a strong voice from within the GSM Advocate circle, Hon. Olaoluwa Peter Olapeter called for collective action among stakeholders. He remarked that “she has sacrificed immensely for the party and for GSM. This is the time to reward dedication and loyalty by supporting her ambition. We must all rally round her to ensure she gets the ticket and represents us at the House of Assembly.”
The declaration event resonated deeply with the people, as it reflected not only a political aspiration but also a movement rooted in service, loyalty, and grassroots connection. Supporters at the gathering echoed confidence in Hon. Olabat’s ability to sustain the developmental strides of the constituency while bringing inclusive representation to the forefront.
